Notes From The Old Guard: Tom Brady Impregnates Hack Sportswriters With His Excellence
By Jay Busbee | January 13, 2008
Breading, flouring and frying up what the (mostly) Southern mainstream media’s reporting these days:
-What is it about quarterbacks that turns grown men into fawning, suckling groupies? Madden and Aikman, Peter King and Favre, and now Mariotti and Brady: “Shame on us. We pay more attention to Tony Romo’s dalliances with Jessica Simpson than we do on the unfailing greatness of Tom Brady.” You’re feeling shame, Mariotti. The rest of us are feeling douche-chills. [Chicago Sun-Times]
-NASCAR’s money-printin’ machine appears to be on the fritz. Expect dozens of cheap automobile metaphors to follow. We recommend “‘Service Bottom Line Soon’ Appears On NASCAR’s Dashboard.” [Nashville Tennesseean]
-See what you’ve done by forcing a Miami-Atlanta replay, NBA? Now everybody with a smidgen of a gripe is going to get in on the act. Exhibit A: Bobcats at Pistons, and a basket-interference-that-wasn’t. Nice job, guys. [Charlotte.com]
-Say what you will about women’s basketball–and we will–but when you draw 19,000-plus for a Louisville-UConn, not ALL of ‘em can be fathers-with-daughters or, uh, “differently oriented.” [Louisville Courier-Journal]
And in the world beyond sports–really, there apparently is one:
Blade takes down vampires. And now, the IRS is looking to take down Blade…It never occurred to Darwin that someone might be dumb enough to text while driving, but here we are…Ever looked at one of those multi-story escalators and thought, “It’d be fun to slide down that”? Don’t…An extraordinarily creepy ad for a Pakistani airline, two decades before 9/11.
