In A World Where Sports Gone South And ESPN Collide…No One Is Safe.

By Jay Busbee | June 4, 2007

Click on over to the World Wide Leader — they could use the hits — to find our latest work for ESPN and Bluff Magazine, “Aces and Ivy.” Aces is a hardbitten cop only a week from retirement. Ivy’s his beautiful yet green (ha!) young partner, a gal with a nose for justice. Together, they’ll crack the biggest case this city’s ever seen…if they don’t kill each other first!

Nah, it’s just an article about poker on campus. Stick around for the comments in the “conversation” section, though. Our favorite is the guy who actually tries to lobby for a job at ESPN.com. Hey, fella! Get in there the same way we did — through an unlocked back door!

And now that we think of it, we’ve now got us a script to write…

Did plenty of that myself in college. Knew some people that were quite serious about it. Loved how they flipped out when I tried to ride a pair of 3s into a winning hand. Then, of course, thinking I had no clue what I was doing, they would underestimate me when I had a decent hand.

I’ve never been able to pull off the “play-dumb” hustle. I’m a decent enough player, but I generally feast on the kind of folks who play every single hand.

Started teaching my daughter how to play the other day. Dealt her a 5 and an 8 and recommended she fold. She didn’t, and the flop comes 6,7,9. First hand of her life, and she flops a straight. I’m hoping it bodes well.

I don’t have kids - barely the attention span required for making them, much less raising them.

But I will say that the Family that Gambles together stays together…Atleast I think that’s what my minister said.

I’m going to take this opportunity to further my worldwide movement to get championship spades to be on TV, and be cool. Cmon, it’s more fun - support it!

I know you aren’t equating spades with go fish.

    I’ll go Cowherd on you!
