Dale Jr. To Leave DEI But Must Surrender Letters “D” and “E”, Will Race As “Ale Arnhardt”

By Jay Busbee | May 10, 2007

We just want to thank Castrol for giving us the opportunity to write this post, brought to you by Target. In today’s McDonald’s NASCAR news, sponsored by Viagra (”The best news pops right up!”) Budweiser’s Dale Earnhardt Jr. has made the stunning announcement brought to you by ESPN that he will be leaving DEI — these letters brought to you by Coca-Cola — and will begin racing for another team. This sponsorship joke brought to you by Black & Decker — when you want to hammer a joke into the ground, you make sure it stays there!

Certainly, this brings up some ethical questions surrounding naming, similar to the “How many lakes are in Los Angeles?” or “There’s no jazz in Utah!” debates when teams move. But don’t fret about Dale Earnhardt Inc. not having Dale Earnhardt on its roster. After all, KFC has done just fine. (We’ll let you decide whether they made the name change because they cut ties with Kentucky…or with chicken.)

Uh… wouldn’t he have to be “Al Arnhardt” without any “e”s?

    Dammit! Everybody’s an editor!

“Al Arnhardt” sounds like a guy running a bowling alley in Kenosha, Wisconsin. “Ale Arnhardt” sounds like some kind of chi-chi German beer sold for ten bucks a glass. All that from one little letter.

I once dated a girl named Al Arnhardt… wait, was that out loud… moving right along…
